Tadley Horizon Sporting Success
Successful Sporting Outcomes for Pupils at Tadley Horizon School
During 2010/2011 Tadley Horizon school has been involved in a range of sporting tournaments and competitions including Athletics as well as 5-aside football. A broad range of activities have been selected to enable pupils of all abilities to participate.
Outdoor, physical activities, specifically competitive sports, provide opportunities for staff and pupils to share in common experiences such as getting wet, feeling tired and importantly working together as part of a team.
Participation in physical activity supports young people with autistic spectrum disorders to develop coping strategies and provides a wide range of opportunities in which they can build self-esteem and learn new skills to achieve success.
In 2011 it was agreed that Tadley Horizon School would increase participation to include a broad range of competitive sporting competitions. Already this year, we have already taken part in a Tag Rugby tournament at a local authority special needs school. The pupils played amazingly well considering they only played Tag Rugby on one occasion prior to the tournament!
We have also been lucky enough to play in a 5-aside football tournament held at the Madejski Stadium Training Dome, home of Championship Football team Reading FC. Again the school team played exceptionally well. Out of six games played they won two, drew two and lost just two! They were only 2 points away from winning the entire tournament which motivated pupils to try even harder next time!
In light of this recent success we have now entered into three more tournaments at the Madejski Stadium, competitions which will be ongoing throughout the year. Tadley Horizon pupils have clearly demonstrated that there is plenty more excitement to come in the months ahead!
We have only just arrived but have placed ourselves firmly on the map!
