Accommodation and facilities

Middleton St George has 68 low secure rehab beds, 28 low secure beds in two wards for male patients, a 12-bed psychiatric intensive care ward specialising in short-term, acute low secure assessment and a 28-bed low secure ward for female patients.

The hospital also incorporates a 13-bedded mixed open rehabilitation house for patients to live with greater independence prior to discharge.

We have excellent internal and external therapeutic and recreational facilities, including:

Jasmine Unit

Jasmine Unit provides individualised assessment and treatment programmes for female patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007), may have a history of offending behaviour and are currently presenting with challenging or self-harming behaviours.  

Thoburn Unit

Thoburn Unit offers intensive active rehabilitation for adults within a safe and therapeutic environment and complements our psychiatric intensive care unit and secure services. Thoburn has 15 single rooms and also has one single bedsit and a three-bedded self contained flat on two floors which enables our patients to engage fully in our therapeutic programmes and progress to a lesser supported environment leading to eventual repatriation into the community.

Oak Unit

Oak Unit specialises in the treatment and management of adult females who display a complexity of mental health issues and require a secure environment in which to feel safe enough to engage in a therapeutic recovery programme. Oak has developed a bio-psychological model of care to manage women who have exceeded, exhausted or failed to benefit from local resources.

The Rowan unit

The Rowan unit at Middleton St George hospital is a purpose built enhanced low secure PICU facility. The unit provides short term intensive assessment as well as longer term stabilisation for adult males whose presentation and behaviour requires an enhanced level of physical and relational security. Following treatment of their condition patients will be able to continue through their individualised care pathway and can be further supported with a range of secure and open rehabilitation facilities within the hospital.

Linden Unit

Linden Unit at Priory Hospital Middleton St George provides a low secure rehabilitation service for adult males who are experiencing severe and enduring mental illness. The team offers a multidisciplinary approach to meet the needs of individuals suffering from severe, enduring mental illness within a safe and secure environment.
