Admission criteria

The women who are eligible for this service will have:

• A primary diagnosis of BPD or emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD)
• Presenting symptoms which match the criteria for BPD but without a formal diagnosis
• They will be detained under the Mental Health Act and will likely have had numerous contacts/admissions with other mental health services

They are also likely to have some or all of the following:

• A possible co-morbidity with other disorders e.g. mood disorders, PTSD, substance misuse, pseudo-psychosis
• A history of trauma/abuse
• A high incidence of risk to self e.g. self-harm and suicidal intent
• A risk of aggression to others
