Multidisciplinary team

The multidisciplinary team are experts in their field and lead the way in the treatment of eating disorders, our consultant psychiatrists are recognised specialists and have developed a service providing the complete care pathway and that can support patients with the most complex of eating disorders. The team comprises of:

  • RMNs and healthcare assistants

Treatment programmes

Inpatient programme

The inpatient service comprises three elements and is designed for patients to see that recovery and a return to healthy living is possible from day one.

The inpatient journey comprises:

  • Intensive care, focusing on immediate physical needs
  • Stabilisation, when psychological intervention is the key element of the care plan
  • Group and individual psychological therapeutic programmes covering body image , nutrition education, dietetics, motivation for change, self-esteem, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), family therapy and relapse prevention
  • Transition to discharge where patients are prepared for return home at a weight that they are able to maintain for a healthy lifestyle, which may include a structured daycare program

Daycare programme

For those requiring therapeutic intervention without inpatient admission, we are able to offer a comprehensive range of treatment packages tailored to meet the needs of the individual; an individual care plan is devised with each patient following initial assessment, we are able to offer groups running on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The care plan will include some or all of the following depending on the level of intervention required:

  • Key worker
  • 1:1 therapy with clinical psychologist
  • Dietitian
  • Meals planned, prepared and eaten in a supported environment within a social setting in the daycare unit
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy

Relatives’ support group

The service believes strongly in providing support for relatives of those with an eating disorder. A support group is held on the first Tuesday of every month between 7.00pm and 8.00pm and is open to the relatives and carers of patients being treated at the Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal.
