Referrals and admission

The Pankhurst Unit

  • Our clinical services are available to females over 18 who may be:
  • Detained under the Mental Health Act including section 136
  • Presenting an acute psychosis and/or severe mood disorder and often self harming behaviour
  • Presenting significant and continued risk to themselves or to others, both on the ward and in the community and who are likely to abscond
  • Having behaviour and recovery issues related to personality disorder
  • Requiring a structured low secure environment that general acute wards are unable to provide
  • Admitted from A&E, judicial system, PICUs, community services and other mental health settings
  • Facing vulnerability issues in current placement

The Willows Unit

  • Our clinical services are available to males over 18 who may be:
  • Detained under the Mental Health Act including section 136
  • Presenting with an acute psychosis or dual diagnosis with a primary mental illness
  • Presenting significant and continued risk to themselves or others, and who have a high risk of absconsion
  • Have exhausted previous local resources or are unable to benefit from general acute ward services
  • Have been admitted from A&E, judicial system, PICUs, community services and other mental health settings and wards

Referrals

  • All patients who broadly fill the admission criteria will be rapidly assessed by the clinical team
  • Short-term crisis referrals will be admitted within eight hours, including those formally detained under Section 136
  • Multidisciplinary and interagency discharge planning will commence on admission
  • As patients progress, they will have the opportunity to transfer to one of our step-down services if appropriate
  • We are able to take referrals and admit 24 hours a day 7 days a week
