Post 18 specialist residential services
Our post 18 specialist residential services offer a unique residential and therapeutic transition service for young people aged 18 to 25 who have severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorders and associated challenging behaviours. The focus is on enabling young people to make a smooth transition into adulthood through developing the necessary independence and social skills required to lead fulfilling lives as adults.
When young people reach Key Stage 4 their curriculum needs are modified to meet their maturing needs. The specialist post 18 education provision provided allows young people to achieve their goals and independence skills. The post 18 curriculum has increased elements of independence, socialisation, recreational and work related activities which include input from external agencies such as local colleges, as appropriate.
Through embracing a two stage transitional approach, young people can continue to access their existing educational programme whilst progressing on to a supported small group living environment with highly specialised staff who deliver independence, social and therapeutic programmes to encourage social and personal independence and self development.
Individualised programmes ensure that every young person can continue to link with their existing programme of activities and education before positively moving on to pursue tailor-made programmes of further education at local colleges, vocational educational or work experience placements.
