Residential care
Residential care is provided at local off-site residential Children’s Homes from 38 up to 52 weeks of the year. Close links between education, care and therapy are maintained to provide integration and consistency in the young person’s personal development programme and ensure a smooth transition from the education to the residential setting.
The 24 hour curriculum links the education and care programmes providing a safe and supportive structure in which the development of young people as individuals is encouraged.
Staff are allocated to young people according to their expertise, knowledge, skills and experience and work across both the education and care setting to maintain safety, stability and security for each young person, whilst also transferring the appropriate skills and knowledge across the staff base.
The gender composition of the staff groups is well balanced so that young people have the opportunity to develop positive relationships with both males and females.
Residential houses
Our Children’s Homes are all located in quiet villages within close proximity to the school and provide outstanding care for all of the young people. Each house offers spacious and homely accommodation designed to provide young people with the opportunity for privacy and small group living as required.
Every young person is allocated their own bedroom with access to private bath and shower facilities, separate communal lounge areas, kitchen facilities, large gardens, multi-sensory areas, quiet rooms and activity rooms. Young people are encouraged to personalise their own bedrooms and communal areas, with the necessary support from staff.
A good choice of well-balanced meals is offered both in the school and residential setting, with separate menu-planning taking into account all individual requirements.
All our residential houses are situated close to local amenities, providing services that are inclusive and integrated within the local community. The community setting plays an important part in the holistic experience of our young people, who are able to freely engage with the natural environment and integrate within the local community, to help them to make sense of the world they live in.
Whole school curriculum
The whole school curriculum is continued in the residential setting in order to emphasise the development of appropriate social behaviours, communication and personal skills. By using a variety of community based environments young people are offered additional opportunities to practice and rehearse these skills in real life settings. Each young person has a dedicated key worker who develops a close understanding of the young person’s needs, interests and abilities
The full and active programme provides access to a wide range of activities and facilities in the community including: outdoor adventure, swimming, soft play, cycling, local walks, visits to parks and local beaches.
These varied and active care programmes are designed to enhance both personal and social development and ensure that every young person can achieve their full potential alongside pursuing their own personal interests.
