Respite care

Oliver House School provides respite care placements for up to eight children and young people aged 6 to 19 with autistic spectrum conditions. Our dedicated respite centre is Ofsted registered and is based in the North West of England.

It has been designed to support young people and their families in times of need, providing flexibility, tailored packages and specifically devised programmes for short, medium and long-term respite care.

Building on the excellent reputation of Oliver House School’s education and care provision our short, medium and long-term respite care programmes provide children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions and learning difficulties a home from home experience in a safe environment that is compatible with the young persons’ and their families needs.

The unit offers spacious and homely accommodation, with the opportunity for both privacy and shared living. All bedrooms are large single rooms with en-suite bath and shower facilities and are adapted to the individual needs of each young person. The focus is on small group living with a dedicated team of staff providing the necessary support for young people with autism, sensory impairments, complex learning requirements and health needs.

Young people and their families can access respite care on a flexible basis according to individual need. Stays can be accommodated from one day or one night to a holiday of two weeks or longer term stays if required.

Respite care provides:

  • Short, medium and long-term stays
  • Flexible options to meet individual care and education needs
  • Opportunity for young people to develop specific skills
  • Comprehensive support programmes
  • A safe, secure and homely environment
  • Access to learning and education, if required
  • Close working relationships with parents
  • Opportunity for small group living
  • Independence skills

Our respite care service works hard to establish a close partnership with parents in order to support the healthy progression and development of young people and to enable them and their parents and/or carers to get the best out of the staff and the respite care provided. We aim to keep parents and carers well informed of all aspects of the young persons learning and care throughout the stay with ongoing communication benefiting the development and success of each individual.

We actively encourage the participation and involvement of parents and carers. However, if you are not happy with the level of communication you receive during the stay please contact the Registered Manager.
