Rossendale School Education

All pupils have an entitlement to a positive education which allows them to experience success, an entitlement which:

'First enlarges a child's knowledge, experience and imaginative understanding and thus awareness of moral value and capacity for enjoyment; and secondly, to enable them to enter the world after formal education is over as an active contributor in society and a responsible contributor to it; capable of achieving as much independence as possible.' Warnock 1981

Pupils are encouraged to learn through a positive, structured learning environment in which the needs of the pupils are met through a success based curriculum delivered by staff with experience and skill in dealing with children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. Teaching methods vary dependent upon the class group and the individuals within it.

All of our pupils have an entitlement to the National Curriculum and each pupil has access to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum aimed at meeting individual needs. Throughout the curriculum pupils have the opportunity to gain accreditation taking both internal and external awards through awarding bodies.  Pupils at the upper end of school follow accredited courses which give them the opportunity to gain key skills.
