The Priory Highbank Centre - Neuro-Rehabilitation Services Lynne House Children's Continuing Care Unit

Lynne House Children's Continuing Care Unit has provided skilled interdisciplinary support for children with acquired brain injuries and complex neurological impairment and their families since 1995.

Lynne House is a well established nurse-led children's continuing care unit, providing skilled nursing care for young people aged 1 to 17 with complex neurological conditions, for example acquired brain injury. The team are efficient at managing tracheostomy care and long-term mechanical ventilation.

Treatment and care programmes

The nursing team at Lynne House provides individualised nursing care plans in a residential setting, supported by the medical and therapy team. Six monthly review meetings are held to ensure appropriate care packages are maintained.

  • Bladder and bowel management
  • Complex medication regimes
  • Enteral feeding
  • Epilepsy monitoring
  • Long-term mechanical ventilation
  • Management of spasticity
  • Managing tracheostomy care
  • Posture management
  • Skin integrity

Family centred philosophy

Family involvement is encouraged from admission. Family and friends are free to visit at any time; if families live far away children are helped to write to their loved ones. Home visits are also encouraged.  The site offers short-term accommodation to families to aid visiting

School

Many of the children are integrated into local schools with programmes tailored to meet their individual needs. In addition our neuro-therapy team works closely with the schools to incorporate the national curriculum into activities on the unit.
