The Priory Highbank Centre - Neuro-Rehabilitation Services The Elton Unit

The Elton Unit is a purpose-built, adult, continuing care facility situated five miles away from the Priory Highbank Centre. It provides specialist services for people who have complex neurological and behavioural needs.

What we treat

A specialist team is on hand to treat a wide range of complex neurological conditions including:

  • Tracheostomy
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Postural management
  • Dysphagia management
  • Low awareness management including SMART® assessment
  • Spasticity management

Treatment and care programmes

A rehabilitation model of care is adopted at the unit. The interdisciplinary team is responsible for setting goals and a nurse-led team then co-ordinates the care, which focuses on maintaining or improving the patient's quality of life.

Family involvement

Families are recognised as central to the well being of the patient and are encouraged to play a key role in care planning.

Social and recreational activities

The Elton Unit provides an informal environment in which social and recreational co-ordinators play an important role. Weekly programmes include:

  • Video sessions
  • Music therapy
  • Monthly theme night

Individual activities include:

  • Home visits
  • Individual outings/meals
