Troup House School is located in a beautiful rural setting in Gamrie near Macduff in Aberdeenshire. The school is set in 43 acres of wooded dens, paddocks and a loch with the main house overlooking the sea. This natural setting plays an important part in the holistic experience of our young people.
The school has been specifically designed to accommodate young people with autistic spectrum disorders and behavioural and emotional difficulties to ensure that it is comfortable and homely, whilst affording privacy. Young people are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms and through ‘young people’s meetings’ are given a say in the purchase of furniture and equipment for the school.
Students are able to freely engage with the natural environment and are also encouraged to participate in the care of the school and gardens, with young people being employed for specific roles and responsibilities in these areas. This provides young people with the opportunity to gain a real-life educational experience which is supported by the principles of the Curriculum for Excellence.
Troup House also has a strong commitment to responsible citizenship through encouraging children and young people to participate in projects that are environmentally friendly.
