Whole School Curriculum

Every opportunity for learning is capitalised upon across 24 hours in order to emphasise the development of appropriate social behaviours and personal skills.

By using a variety of resources in the community our children and young people receive additional opportunities to practice and rehearse these vital skills in real-life settings.

The Curriculum for Excellence has promoted learning beyond the classroom. Daily activities such as tending to the bird feeders, growing and eating strawberries and undertaking household tasks positively develop our young people and help them to gain the necessary skills for life and work.  Such activities also increase confidence, raise aspirations, improve motivation for learning and keep young people engaged in education. The 24 hour curriculum is regarded as a positive move for young people whose education has been hugely disrupted and is structured according to individual needs.

Other events and challenges include:

  • Skiing trips – involve life skills such as planning, saving pocket money and tracking the route. Achievements include 2 star to 5 star French ski school awards.
  • Motor boat cruises – involve learning how to self cater, fishing and sailing skills. Achievements include gaining the Day Skipper course.
  • Trips to various UK destinations – developing social skills and cultural knowledge.
  • Holiday Park visits – improving independent living skills.

Other young people at Troup House School are involved in the Around Scotland BMX trip, pony stable management and developing animated films.
