The Priory Hospital Southampton (Marchwood previously) Child and Adolescent Unit (CAMHS)
The Southampton Priory has two separate CAMHS units:
- Lodgehill – 9 bedded general adolescent
- Haseley – 11 bedded high dependency including a 2 bedded enhanced HDU
Both units have a dedicated multi-disciplinary team as well as access to the hospital school and education services.
The multi-disciplinary team includes:
- Consultant Psychiatrist
- Systemic Family Therapist
- Occupational Therapist
- Teaching staff
- Experienced nursing team
- Social worker
- Psychology and educational psychology
- Therapy including psychotherapy, counselling, CBT, CAT and trauma work including EMDR
- Creative therapies including creative expression, art and dance therapy.
The General Adolescent Unit:
Works with a wide range of presenting concerns including young people with:
- Eating Disorders
- Depression
- Self harming behaviours
- Obsessive-compulsive disorders
- Fatigue syndromes
- Trauma - related conditions
- Addictions
For young people with Eating Disorders:
The Adolescent Unit works in conjunction with the adult Eating Disorders Service and has access to specialist treatments including motivational interview, multiple family group therapy and naso-gastric feeding when required.
The High Dependency Unit:
Is for young people who present with a combination of significantly challenging behaviour as well as mental health difficulties requiring assessment and treatment. Young people often have typical multiple difficulties including:-
- Learning difficulties
- Developmental Disorders
- Severe ADHD
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders
- Post-Traumatic difficulties
- Histories of severe abuse and neglect, often young people in care.
- Drug induced difficulties
- Major Psychotic illness
Within the high dependency unit there is a 2 bedded enhanced high dependency area. This area provides a calm and low stimulus environment for young people with challenging behaviours in the least restrictive environment. Young people nursed in the enhanced high dependency area will have access to specialist individualized care and treatment which facilitates transfer to environments in the HDU and open adolescent wards, allowing continuity of care through each stage of the care pathway.
