The Priory Grange Ticehurst House Overview
An introduction to our complex care and rehabilitation service
The Priory Grange Ticehurst House caters for adults of all ages with severe and enduring mental health problems, requiring either transitional or more intensive rehabilitation with a view to living independently or with support in the community. Specialist interventions are delivered to younger adults with Asperger’s Syndrome or an autistic spectrum disorder, with seamless progression available onto our residential, independence training and vocational programme at Rookery Hove.
Our patients
Our patients are aged 18 and over, have enduring mental health problems and need limited physical intervention and include those who may:
- Have a complex or multiple diagnosis
- Have pervasive developmental disorders (eg Asperger’s Syndrome and autistic spectrum disorder) with co-morbid psychiatric conditions
- Have pronounced social and behavioural difficulties
- Be stepping up from a residential home or care home
- Be stepping down from a forensic or secure setting
- Be detained under the Mental Health Act, with or without Home Office restrictions
- Be in need of expertise in areas such as self-harm, trauma or severe interpersonal difficulties
Therapeutic programmes
- Flexible care planning, coordinated by the multidisciplinary team to meet individual patient needs
- Comprehensive approach to de-escalation and general management of aggression and challenging behaviour
- Therapeutic interventions for all levels of dependency to promote optimal level of functioning
- Individual rehabilitation programmes
- Ongoing assessment to monitor and respond to changing needs and levels of functioning
Facilities
The Priory Grange Ticehurst House is also able to take younger patients who are physically fit and who require transitional rehabilitation with the aim of living independently or moving into supported living within the community.
The service is an 21-bedded, self contained unit based within the main hospital. We work closely with patients’ families and carers to ensure that patient quality of life is paramount. All services ensure seamless communication between the patients, their families, purchasers, clinicians and hospital management.

- Access to laundry and kitchen, promoting independence

Clinical services
The Priory Grange Ticehurst House offers medium and long-term care with the focus on transitiontal rehabilitation and the aim to move individuals to a more independent placement. All Grange hospitals are committed to a holistic approach and uphold the core values of respect, privacy and dignity. The hospital’s multidisciplinary clinical team, guided by consultant psychiatrists, maintains the highest standards of care in a safe, positive environment.
The adjacent acute hospital, the Priory Ticehurst House, has a broad ranging therapy service provided by therapists, psychologists and activity specialists, which is easily accessed by the Grange team. This enables us to have the flexibility to offer optimum level of patient care and therapy to respond to individual needs.

Services available at Priory Grange hospitals
The nine Priory Grange hospitals provide care and treatment in safe, homely environments for people with severe and enduring mental illness coupled with complex needs. Each Priory Grange specialises in particular types of complexity and co-morbidity, ranging from physical illness, degenerative disease and restricted mobility through learning disabilities, Asperger’s Syndrome and autistic spectrum disorders, to substance misuse, personality disorder and long-term institutionalisation.
