General psychiatry
The hospital's consultant-led clinical teams treat a wide range of mental health issues and addictions of varying severity, including depression, anxiety, stress and phobias.
We also have an acute psychiatric service which is provided on an inpatient basis offering residential nursing care and intensive therapy for patients aged over 18. Accommodation is provided on the Lower Court Ward, which offers patients a calm, restful environment.
Addiction treatment programme
The addiction treatment programme can be accessed on a residential or outpatient basis depending upon the patient's circumstances.
The programmes are based on the 12-step abstinence model and provide treatment for a wide range of behavioural and substance dependencies including alcohol, drugs, gambling, shopping, sex, food, computer use, exercise etc. On successful completion of the 28 day programme, patients are offered continuous support for the following year. Programmes are also available to treat the more complex and increasingly common conditions such as poly-addictions or dual diagnosis.
Addiction treatment programme includes:
- FREE initial assessment with an addiction therapist is offered to anyone seeking help with addiction
- FREE weekly aftercare support for 12 months post completion of the 28 day programme
- FREE family support during and post treatment
- Individual and group therapy/counselling
- Educational lectures, workshops and seminars designed to inform the patient of the nature of the addiction and to facilitate strategies for recover
- Holistic activities, such as meditation and complementary therapies
Adolescent eating disorders service
The Chrysalis Centre is a specialist eating disorder unit dedicated to treating adolescent patients aged 13 to 18 in a secure eight-bed inpatient environment which incorporates en-suite bedrooms, kitchen and dining rooms, a school room with education support and a family therapy room.
Adult eating disorder service
This service is for those who are suffering from an eating disorder and require quick access to our inpatient and day care services. We treat people who are in the acute phase of an eating disorder, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and morbid obesity.
Therapy and day care services
The Cedar Therapy Centre provides counselling and several therapeutic interventions on a one-to-one or group basis. Patients may attend for a full day, half day or sessional basis.
Outpatient services are available from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm Monday to Friday and 9.00 am to 6.00 pm on Saturday, allowing patients to see their psychiatrist or therapist at a convenient time.
Acute Asperger's Unit (Keston Unit)
The Keston Unit at the Prioy Hospital Hayes Grove is a dedicated service for adults suffering with Asperger's and other autistic spectrum disorders and who also are experiencing mental health problems including depression, anxiety, OCD, addictions and psychotic symptoms. The Keston Unit offers inpatient, outpatient and assessment services.
Admissions are geared towards caring for a patient through a mental health or behavioural crisis and delivering a comprehensive rehabilitation programme. Patients receive specialist care in a structured and predictable environment ensuring the safest recovery as quickly as possible.
The programmes, delivered by a multi-disciplinary team, are built around individuals' abilities and tolerance to stress and focus on improving daily activity, living skills and community integration. Facilities include spacious single en-suite bedrooms, communal relaxation areas, controlled access to IT facilities, dedicated garden, quiet room and therapy and activity room.
The aim of the Keston Unit is to assess, treat, stabilise and eventually progress the patient to the most appropriate environment as quickly and safely as possible.
