Chelfham Senior School
Principal: John Steward
Overview
Chelfham Senior School is a specialist residential and day school for socially and emotionally vulnerable boys and girls aged 7 to 19 who have autism with emotional and behavioural difficulties. The school specialises in working with students exhibiting severe emotional and behavioural difficulties and those who have difficulties in acquiring appropriate social skills.
Many pupils have experienced failure, disappointment and criticism with resulting feelings of inadequacy and poor self-image. Many also have additional conditions including Asperger's Syndrome. Chelfham Senior School provides a positive and structured environment where students are encouraged to assess their behaviour and affect change. Students efforts are privately and publicly acknowledged in a constructive manner.
Our aim is to give young people with complex difficulties a better chance in life by helping them to reappraise themselves and develop feelings of self-worth.
We provide:
- A positive ethos which celebrates and rewards success and progress
- A culture in which students feel safe, secure and listened to
- A framework where students learn to take responsibility for the control of their own behaviours
Placements can be either on a residential or day basis for up to 52 weeks of the year depending on individual need. We can provide places for up to 63 students.
