Farleigh Further Education College - Frome care

All residences at Farleigh Further Education College - Frome are staffed 24 hours a day and all have night walking officers. Each residence has a dedicated team of learning support workers who work closely with the learners at each site. In addition to the support workers, each residence is managed by a senior member of staff and shift leaders who are responsible for day-to-day running, organisation of the residence and for the day-to-day education, support and care of each learner.  Working in this way develops close working bonds and helps develop mutual trust and support for each learner and their needs.

All staff are expected to complete specialist training and develop an understanding and working knowledge of Asperger's Syndrome. Support staff develop particularly good working relationships with learners and all learners are assigned a member of staff who oversee their time with us and who liaise with family and parents/caregivers on an ongoing basis.

Careful attention has been paid to creating balanced teams of staff at each of the residences. Following a radical restructure in 2004 the college has built a clear staffing structure which enables staff to work collaboratively, develop mutual trust and build relationships with all learners and their parents or caregivers. At most residences there is a mixture of under and over 18 years old learners. They are accommodated in separate rooms.

In the exceptional circumstance of learners under and over 18 choosing to share a room, risk assessments are carried out to inform decisions on appropriateness. Learners are consulted at admission and at various stages during their stay at Farleigh Further Education College - Frome regarding their choice of residence and room allocation. Careful consideration is always given to resolving issues which may arise from changing needs and choice.

It is essential that learners at Farleigh Further Education College - Frome and their parents/caregivers are able to voice their concerns and as we are committed to ensuring the highest quality of provision, feedback is always welcomed.
