Rugeley Horizon Admissions criteria and process
Criteria
- Girls and boys aged four to 19 years with a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder or evidence of behaviours which are in accordance with such a diagnosis
- The young person has a Statement of Special Educational Need
- Learning difficulties within the moderate to severe range
- Adequate or potentially adequate physical disability to participate in the programme
- No adverse medical conditions
- An appropriate peer group in terms of mix of abilities, age, behaviour, social and communication skills, gender and other relevant factors
Process
Initial assessment
- An initial assessment is made to ascertain whether the needs of an individual young person can be met by the schools educational approach
- At the initial stage supporting paperwork will be requested, ie the statement, individual reports together with video evidence where possible
- A home/school visit may be undertaken and parents will be asked to complete a questionnaire
- The young person is invited to the school for a full day's assessment programme
Offer of a place
This is conditional on the school's ability to:
- Meet the young person's needs across the disciplines of education, residential care and specialist skills
- Meet the young person's needs in terms of independence training; self help skills, social skills and the development of leisure
