New jobs as Priory announces Stoke development

Priory Group, Europe's leading independent provider of mental healthcare, is investing in its first care home for older people in England.

The opening of Amberley House in Stoke-on-Trent, a 76-bedded purpose built nursing care home, is the first phase of the company's plans to expand its range of services into the elderly care sector.    Priory Group currently manages a facility in Belfast and plans to increase its care home portfolio of new developments.   The Priory Group also has specialist care home for adults under 65 years providing neuro-rehabilitation, and nursing care for people with complex physical needs.

Amberley House will open in April 2009 under the leadership of experienced home manager Heather Sault, creating up to 60 jobs in the area.  The home will provide nursing and dementia services in single, en-suite accommodation finished to the highest standard. There will also be a choice of lounges and dining areas and a secure enclosed landscaped garden.

The first-floor dementia unit will reflect the very latest research in dementia care focussing on a person's abilities. Dementia-signposting will assist with orientation and a reminiscence room will be available.

All residents will have access to carefully planned activities and a wide range of professionals including a hairdresser, chiropodist, optician and GP.

Bhvana Jones, managing director of Priory Group Care Homes Division said:  "We are investing in older people's services over the next few years.     Amberley House has been well received by our colleagues in the public sector, particularly the provision of dementia services.

"I feel for us at the Priory Group our experience in mental health, complex and long term care will transfer really well into older people's services. Older people are coming into care and nursing homes later and are more frail. The residents are likely to have more complex needs and associated health issues that we are confident we have the experience to care for."
