Priory opens first care home for older people in Northern Ireland

Priory Group, Europe's leading independent provider of mental healthcare has chosen Northern Ireland for the opening of its first care home for older people, Ben Madigan care home adjacent to the existing home in Newtonabbey, County Antrim.

The 64-bedded purpose-built home is being built by Belfast based NMC Developments Ltd and will be finished to the highest specification including single room accommodation with en-suite facilities throughout. There will also be a choice of lounges and dining areas and a secure enclosed landscaped garden. The home will continue to provide dementia and nursing services.

Continuity of care and the transfer of the existing residents to the new home will be co-ordinated by home manager Muriel Shirley, and residents and relatives will continue to be kept informed throughout the move.    It is hoped that the home will be open in March.

The Priory Group also has specialist care homes for adults aged under 65 years providing neuro-rehabilitation, and nursing care for people with complex physical needs. Priory Group plans to increase its care home portfolio with new builds in Northern Ireland and England.

Bhvana Jones, Managing Director of Priory Group Care Homes Division said: "I feel for us at the Priory Group our experience in mental health, complex and long term care will transfer really well into older people's services. Older people are coming into care and nursing homes later and are more frail. The residents are likely to have more complex needs and associated health issues that we are confident we have the experience to care for."
