Major Investment For Leicester Care Home

Charnwood Lodge in Nanpantan, Leicester, part of the Craegmoor Group, has undergone a significant refurbishment to further enhance the facilities for its residents.

Charnwood Lodge, in Woodhouse Lane, Nanpantan, provides an assessment and fast track primary service for adults with mental health problems and learning disabilities, including autistic spectrum disorders.

Charnwood Lodge is a large building set in extensive and well-maintained grounds with a small farm on the site. The service has a barbecue area which is enjoyed by individuals in the summer months. There are also lounge and dining rooms with small kitchenettes. All bedrooms have washing facilities and there are 5 bathrooms.

The home is divided into two distinct areas, the Elm Unit and the Oak Apartments. Elm Unit is a transition unit, which aims to help residents prepare for successful re-integration into the community. The final stage of the process is offered at the Oak apartments, which offer semi-independent living with the back-up support of the multi-disciplinary at Charnwood Lodge.

All the community areas on the Elm Unit have been refurbished including the lounge areas, dining room, bedrooms and the sensory room. The Oak apartments have benefitted from revamped bedrooms.

The spectacular sensory room use light, colour and soft fabrics and furnishings to create an environment that is both stimulating but safe and relaxing to offer a sanctuary for the residents.

Home manager Donna Campbell said: “The investment in Charnwood Lodge has transformed the fabric of the home and had a positive impact on the residents. The sensory room in particular is amazing.

“Everything is geared towards achieving positive outcomes for the residents and the refurbishment is making a real difference. We care for and support people at a time when they are vulnerable, but looking towards the future, and the physical environment in which they live is very important.”
