STAR GUESTS PERFORM TO RAISE MONEY FOR GOOD CAUSES

Stars in their eyes

Residents at Amberley House care home, part of the Priory Group, were left star-struck after they hosted a special ‘stars in their eyes’ competition to raise funds for the Stoke Minster Roof Appeal and Action on Elder Abuse.

The care home in Stoke-on-Trent invited staff and relatives to dress up as their favourite singers and perform for the residents of the care home. Guests were treated to a Judy Garland act, songs from Val Doonican, Celine Dion and American songstress Connie Francis.

A local entertainer introduced each act and kept the audience amused with his singing and jokes during the breaks. Reverend David Lingwood, Rector at Stoke Minster, attended the glamorous evening where a total of £130 was raised.

Stoke Minster began its roof fund when thieves stole lead off the church roof in April, causing £30,000 worth of damage.

Gemma Wallbanks, social and leisure organiser at Amberley House, said: “The evening was a success and everyone seemed to be thoroughly entertained. I want to say a big thank you to all those who got on stage and performed, it’s not easy! We raised a good total for our chosen charities and I thank everyone for their kind donations on the night.”

Reverend David Lingwood, Rector at Stoke Minster, said: “I really enjoyed the ‘stars in their eyes’ evening. It was a lot of fun and congratulations to those who got up and sang.

“We are very grateful for the donations to our roof fund. We have made a good start and this will help to spur us on, until we reach our target.”

Peter Leather, home manager at Amberely House, said: “The night was a great success and we hope all donations to the Stoke Minster Roof Fund and Action on Elder Abuse will help to further their cause.”
