Harry's national sporting triumph

A student at Tadley Horizon School in Basingstoke, which is part of the Priory Group, has scooped a national sports award.

Harry Law, 15, won the "Contribution to School Sports" title in the 2008 School Sports Matters Awards.

Harry, who is autistic, manages his anxieties through sports and exercise.   He has grown into a talented all-round athlete and is captain of both Tadley Horizon's gymnastic and athletics squads.

The philosophy at Tadley Horizon, which caters for youngsters aged four to 19 with severe to mild autism, is to focus on the needs of each individual student and to provide a caring and supportive environment in which their self-confidence and self-esteem can develop.

Tadley Horizon has excellent sport and recreation facilities on-site, including a purpose-built sports hall, hard and soft play areas, 5-a-side football pitch, jogging track and a nature trail, with swimming and riding available locally.

Harry's sporting abilities have been nurtured by Tadley Horizon sports teacher Gareth Green, who is a national gymnastics coach.

Tadley Horizon principal Phil Jonas said:  "We are really proud of Harry's fantastic achievement in being recognised at national level for his outstanding sporting talents.

"At Tadley Horizon we believe in helping all our pupils meet their full potential and Harry is testament to this way of working."
