Priory extends its service in Edinburgh to meet demand

The Priory Group, the UK's leading provider of acute mental health services, has expanded the services offered at its Edinburgh facility to meet an increase in demand.

The Priory Edinburgh Consulting Rooms, which are based in St Andrews Square, have been open since 2008 and during this time have experienced a steady rise in the number of people seeking treatment.

It has extended its provision from half a day to five days a week with a consultant psychiatrist, three therapists and a dietician in place to offer support and guidance for those suffering from a range of mental health problems.

The Edinburgh facility now provides a dedicated eating disorder clinic one day a week as well as offering assessments, therapy, counselling and advice to overcome a range of mental health issues including addictions, depression, anxiety and self confidence issues.

Mental pressures caused by the current economic climate are causing more people to seek psychiatric help and this trend has played a part in the need for the Priory Group to extend its services in Edinburgh.

The Priory Edinburgh Consulting Rooms are headed by Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Alex Yellowlees, who holds clinics there two days a week.

Dr Yellowlees said: "This expansion will enable us to continue to meet the growing needs of people in the Edinburgh area and further afield."

He added: "Patients are often referred direct from their GP but can also self refer in the first instance. We would encourage anyone who feels that they may have an emotional problem or has worries about their psychological health to initially visit their GP and seek a referral for an assessment in the clinic."
