Increase in Services at Priory Milton Keynes

The Priory Group is expanding the specialist services at its hospitals in Milton Keynes.

Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View hospitals are currently medium secure units for male and female patients respectively.  Chadwick Lodge provides specialist treatment programmes for male patients who have been detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) and have a history of offending behaviour.     Eaglestone View specialises in patients with multiple needs who require a setting that provides physical and psychological security.

The sites offer all patients a progressive care pathway provision and this will be enhanced with the redesigning of the existing units and the commissioning of a brand new service.

The changes will result in an extremely comprehensive care pathway through three hospitals on the site offering medium and low secure facilities and complex care and rehabilitation services.    In total, the site will offer treatment and care for up to 93 male and female patients who have a very broad spectrum of needs.

Chadwick Lodge will provide medium secure services to both male and female patients and Eaglestone View will become a low secure unit.

The new facility, Milton Keynes Grange will be a 10 bed specialist complex care unit offering care facilities to female patients.

Milton Keynes Grange will offer both a home and treatment for adults with enduring mental health and physical illness who also demonstrate challenging behaviour.

Patients at all three hospitals will benefit from facilities including a secure garden, swimming pool and aqua therapy, tennis court, multi-sensory room, fully-equipped gym, occupational kitchen and therapy rooms, arts and crafts studio, sports therapy and horticultural activities.

Medical director Dr Susan Iles said:  "We are re-shaping services at the hospital in response to customer and patient demand.

"Milton Keynes Grange will provide intensive, highly flexible care programmes in safe, caring environments for patients with complex needs that cannot be met within conventional hospitals or care homes.

Our patient conditions are often the result of organic, degenerative or neurological problems.   The hospital's objective will be to improve each individual's quality of life and enable slow stream rehabilitation where possible.  This is a very exciting time for us."

The Priory Group is Europe's leading independent provider of acute mental health, secure and step-down services, specialist education, complex care and neuro-rehabilitation services, working in partnership with the public and independent sectors.
