Eating disorders

According to B-eat (previously the Eating Disorders Association), there are 1.15 million people suffering from diagnosed and undiagnosed eating disorders throughout the UK, with just 90,000 sufferers currently receiving treatment.

Eating disorders are a complex combination of medical and psychiatric issues that require sensitive treatment.

Treatment

Every patient is under the care of a consultant psychiatrist who specialises in eating disorders and leads a team of nurses, therapists, psychologists, dieticians and education staff with specialist knowledge and training and who are dedicated to treating eating disordered patients.

Our care packages are tailored to the individual patient's medical, psychological and social needs and are aimed at successfully conquering the issues that led to the eating disorder, as well as achieving target weight. Our eating disorders patients live in dedicated wards where they share their life experiences, encouraging them to offer each other friendship and support on their journey toward mental and physical health.

School-aged patients can continue their education in these units and, where appropriate, we liaise with patients' schools to assist their re-integration after treatment.

We also support the patients' families and friends, who are often seriously affected by the issues facing their loved ones.

All Priory treatment programmes work to NICE guidelines and are usually provided on an inpatient basis, with the average length of stay between three and four months.
