Trevor Torrington, Managing Director - Secure and Acute Services, Priory Granges and Highbank, Priory Group
Trevor's first introduction into the healthcare industry occurred between 1982 and 1994 when he worked for a medical and surgical distribution company in South Africa. The company distributed medical and surgical equipment, implants and medical disposables throughout South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia. The company operated 10 distribution, sales and administrative centres throughout the region. His key roles as he progressed through the organisation were as Logistics Manager, Sales and Marketing Director, and Managing Director.
In 2001 Trevor joined the Glen Care Group as Managing Director. His mandate was to create a business plan to transform a small family-run independent hospital group into a larger corporation operating 8 hospitals and 6 care homes. He also played a major role in securing NHS contracts and Public/Private Partnership arrangements to ensure occupancy at all the hospitals were maintained at optimum levels.
Paul Cowans, Regional Manager - Secure, Hospital Director - Thornford Park
Paul has worked in acute and secure mental health services for over 20 years and prior to joining Priory was a senior manager at Broadmoor Hospital. He became a registered mental nurse in 1984, and then trained as a humanistic psychotherapist at Surrey University.
He completed the Senior Manager programme at the Kings Fund Centre in 1998/99 and recently the Windsor Leadership Programme with the Windsor Foundation.
Mark Watts, Regional Director and Hospital Director - the Priory Ticehurst House
Mark qualified as an RMN in 1983 and worked as a staff Nurse and Charge Nurse within a maximum secure hospital for twelve years. After completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and an MSc in Operations Management, he joined the Priory Group to open the Longridge Clinic on the Springfield Hospital site in London. The Longridge Clinic was the first 10 bedded secure unit managed by Priory as a joint venture with the NHS.
Mark was then appointed as Deputy Hospital Director at the Priory Hospital Roehampton and manager of the Churchill Clinic in central London. He has also held Hospital Directors posts at the Priory Ticehurst House and more recently at Cedar House a low secure learning disability hospital in Kent
Mark rejoined the Priory Group in April 2009 as Hospital Director for Farmfield. He also held the role of Regional Directtor. In January 2012 Mark moved to the Priory Ticehurst House as hospital director. He is also the regional director for Priory Grange Heathfield, the Vines Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre and Egerton Road Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre.
Paul O'Connor, Hospital Director, Farmfield
Paul commenced his RMN training in 1987 at Brookwood Hospital in Surrey, and then spent 10 years working within inpatient services across West Surrey and North East Hampshire, seven of these as ward manager.
He completed a Diploma in Management Studies in 1997, and then spent two years as a CPN in Godalming, Surrey before moving into the independent sector in London in 2002 with Cygnet Healthcare.
In 2002 he became a part-time nurse reviewer with the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI).
Paul joined Priory secure services in April 2007 as Director of Nursing Services.
Dr Susan Iles MA DPhil BM BCh FRCPsych, Medical Director, Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View
After qualifying, Susan trained in forensic psychiatry before becoming Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist in women's secure services at Broadmoor Hospital and Ealing (West London Mental Health Trust).
Between 1997 and 2001, Susan served as an elected member of the executive committee of the Forensic Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and between 1998 and 2002 was a second opinion approved doctor for the Mental Health Act Commission.
In 2002 Susan became Clinical Director of Womens' Services at Broadmoor Hospital and from 2005 Clinical Director for Women's Forensic Services for the West London Mental Health Trust, where she took a lead in the creation of The Orchard, a new build women's enhanced medium secure unit which opened to patients in 2007.
Susan was appointed Medical Director for Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View in January 2007 where she continues her work with women suffering borderline personality disorders as part of her caseload.
Dr Quazi Haque, MBBS, MRCPsych, DFP (Merit), LLM (Distinction), Medical Director, Farmfield
Dr Quazi Haque is dually qualified in medicine and law. He completed his specialist training in forensic psychiatry at the renowned Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry. He also worked within the newly developed healthcare services at HMP Belmarsh which achieved Beacon recognition. He has since held senior clinical and research posts linked to the Home Office, Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry. He has extensive experience in the development of specialist mental health services, including community forensic services for adult and adolescent service users.
He continues to hold an academic position at the Institute of Psychiatry and has international recognition as an expert in the development of evidence based clinical risk management systems. He joined Priory Group in 2004 and became Medical Director at Farmfield Hospital soon afterwards.
Dr Rick Driscoll, Medical Director and Consultant Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrist, Thornford Park
Rick joined Priory secure services as a consultant in 2003 and was appointed Medical Director at Thornford Park in 2006.
Rick trained as a doctor at Liverpool University Medical School. He began his postgraduate and psychiatric training in 1984, with appointments in Liverpool, Charing Cross Hospital London, St. Bernard's Ealing, and The Reaside Clinic and other hospitals in the West Midlands. In 1986 he had his first association with the Priory, as a Priory research fellow at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School. He is dually accredited in forensic and general/rehabilitation psychiatry.
Rick's first appointment as a consultant was as a general adult and community psychiatrist in Gloucester. He was there from 1993 to 1999, where he had involvement with their PICU, drugs and therapeutics committee, and was lead consultant for adult mental health for a period of time.
Rick moved to work in secure treatment environments in 1999, joining the low secure and specialist rehabilitation services at Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham Mental Health Trust.
In 2001 he was the consultant appointed to set up the Avon High Dependency Rehabilitation Service (low secure) in Bristol.
With Priory he took a lead role with the low secure assessment and treatment service, along with working on other low secure rehabilitation wards. He is now the consultant for Kingsclere - a low secure rehabilitation ward. Clinically he best enjoys working in low secure environments, where he can combine his forensic and rehabilitation skills.
