Priory hospitals achieve accreditation to keep them at forefront of eating disorder care

The Priory hospitals at CheadleRoehampton and Hayes Grove have recently achieved certification from the Quality network for Eating Disorders (QED).

The hospitals have achieved Quality Network for Eating Disorders (QED) accreditation, which places them at the forefront of eating disorder service delivery in the UK.

The Quality Network for Eating Disorders works with hospitals to assure and improve the quality of services treating people with eating disorders, and their carers.  Through a comprehensive process of review, it identifies and acknowledges high standards of organisation and service user care and support.   It is an initiative of the College Centre for Quality Improvement, which encompasses eating disorder standards for child and adult services, both inpatient and community-based.

Accreditation assures staff, service users and carers, commissioners and regulators of the quality of the service being provided.     NHS England requires achievement of these standards to enable services to deliver public sector contracts.

The standards reflect the issues which make a difference in the experience of a person using the service.  They follow a patient pathway through care and how the service interfaces with other services.  The standards used are underpinned by a core set of values developed by an advisory group consisting of professional groups, patients and their carers.

The standards cover five domains:

  • General Standards, including policies, protocols and staffing related issues
  • Timely and Purposeful Admission
  • Safety
  • Environment and Facilities
  • Therapies and Activities

Peter Smith, Service Line  Director, Eating Disorders said:    “We are delighted to have received this independent verification of the quality of our eating disorder provision.  This reflects the hard work and dedication of all our teams. The QED Accreditation is important to the hospitals in order to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to safe, and a high quality service. “
