Our Llanarth Court team conquered the Hafal Sports Day

Early morning, on the 7th of September 2017, a team of 25 excited and motivated patients and staff from Llanarth Court Hospital set off to attend the annual Hafal Sports Day in Swansea. Hafal Sports Day looks to aid and support the recovery of people in local services by offering an opportunity to strengthen their physical health and wellbeing. Llanarth's Sport Therapy Department, headed by Linda Brute and Nicholas Green, led the way and our team, staff and patients alike enjoyed getting involved, meeting new people, and taking part in such a positive day.

The event included traditional sports such as track and field athletics, as well as alternative activities such as Nordic walking, Limbo, and Space Hopper Horse racing. Being able to take part in a host of fun and challenging activities helped to underpin the purpose of the day: to promote the importance of physical health within the mental health services.

While the weather wasn't ideal for most of the day, this didn't deter our team in competing in each event, where there were some great individual performances from our patients. Our therapy team and supporting staff also didn't disappoint; they lead by example and participated in a number of sports, and motivating our patients to have a go at activities that they may not have been familiar with. The result was everyone getting into the spirit of the day and contributing to its success.

And the success wasn’t restricted to the overall event – the Llanarth team were extremely happy to come away from the day as winners of the Overall External Champions trophy!

Everyone involved (both staff and patients) is extremely proud of their performance, and displayed wonderful team spirit throughout. As well as enjoying a fun day, the entire team were positive representatives for Llanarth Court Hospital.
