Priory Group is proud to support the Dallaglio Foundation and Teenage Cancer Trust by taking part in the Dallaglio Cycle Slam which is a four stage gruelling cycle route. The riders from Priory Group are:
- CEO Tom Riall
- Group Head of Business Development Chris Screech
- Director of Safety David Watts
- Education Operations Director Simon Coles
David, Tom and Chris ready for a training session starting out from Priory Hospital Roehampton.
The team are taking part in ‘stage 2’ of the route, which begun on Sunday 8th of June and finishes on Thursday 12th June, cycling from St Moritz in Switzerland to Chamonix in France, covering 565.1km and 12,759m climbing elevation over 5 days – that’s 42,000 feet of Alpine Climbing!
David Watts explains how they came to be involved: “The idea to undertake the ride was ‘hatched’ during the Hammersmith Office Christmas Meal. Chris made enquiries and found that there were still places left on Stage 2 of the Dallaglio Cycle Slam. Things took off from there. During February and March Tom, Chris and I undertook short rides on an evening after work – progressing from 10 to 20 miles and then going further into the Surrey Hills. Since then we have ridden a number of ‘sportives’ in preparation for the French Alps for example the New Forest and Dartmoor rides during which we have acquitted ourselves very well despite our age! Now Simon has also joined the gang so we will be four strong!”
Simon added: "After April’s Board review I found myself in a discussion with Tom and Chris (who understood I liked the odd bike ride!) Tom invited me to join ‘Velo Club Priory’ for the St Moritz – Chamonix challenge and despite only leaving 4 training weekends between registration with Cycle Slam and my bike being shipped to Switzerland, the answer had to be yes, didn’t it?!”
