The Priory Group were delighted to be part of the 2013 HSJ Awards which took place on 19 November in London, hosted by Journalist and Presenter Jon Snow.
The evening was a celebration and showcase of excellence, innovation and quality of care that is delivered throughout the healthcare sector.
Special congratulations are extended to the winners of the Priory Group sponsored ‘Innovation in Mental Health Award’ Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust for their project which focussed on revolutionising catering across learning disability assessment and treatment inpatient services, giving people with learning disabilities opportunities to influence and participate. The project revolutionises catering across learning disability assessment and treatment inpatient services. Patients are given the opportunity to help plan the ward’s food menus, and also to cook the meals. This ‘self-catering’ model promotes a sense of independence for learning disabilities patients and gives them confidence to cook for themselves when they leave the unit. Patients also have the chance to gain a qualification in food hygiene. This work has now been replicated in all learning disability units across the Trust.
Trevor Torrington, Healthcare Managing Director, Priory Group said “As the UK’s leading independent provider of mental health services we were honoured to be the sponsor of the ‘Innovation in Mental Health Award’. The award is a great platform on which to recognise the innovation that is leading the way in delivering better services, empowering service users, putting them at the centre of care, engaging the community and reducing stigma. Congratulations to all the winners and those shortlisted for such excellent work”.
