Recovery F1rst, an innovative new joint venture between Priory Healthcare and Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW) has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Located in Widnes, the hospital has been shortlisted in the Public/Private partnership of the year category at the Health Investor Awards. The awards were launched in 2007, as the best way of promoting excellence and recognising innovation in the UK health sector.
The Priory Group (Europe’s leading independent provider of mental health services) and GMW joined forces to create the venture which sees each organisation bring their wealth of experience and expertise to Widnes. The 72-bed state-of-the-art facility provides care for people who have serious mental health problems, but also with other complexities such as autism and personality disorder.
The clinical services and multi-disciplinary team are provided by GMW and Priory provides excellent nursing and support staff.
Recovery F1rst opened its first service for men with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and mental health issues in September 2013 followed by a service for women with complex needs and personality difficulties in October 2013. The decision was taken to provide services that would enable patients to be treated closer to their home and their families, and that would complement the services already provided by GMW and Priory to strengthen the pathways from inpatient services back into the community. Two new services are planned for opening in mid 2014.
The hospital has taken referrals and placements from the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, North West and North Wales.
Recovery F1rst was successful in the PQQ, invited to tender and is currently at the assessment stage for the NHS Wales mental health framework.
It has recently been inspected by the regulator, the CQC, for the first time and the report was very complimentary about the staff and services provided.
Tom Riall, Priory Group Chief Executive said: “Recovery F1rst aims to bring together the best of the NHS and independent sector to provide high quality services and value for money.
“The staffing structure and the use of a Priory site and support services means we are able to offer specialist services at a competitive rate and help reduce the cost of placements to the NHS. This is an increasingly important factor during the current climate and the need for savings and efficiencies.
“We are very proud to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award and to be leading the way in shaping the future of mental healthcare.”
