Consultant psychiatrist at Priory Hospital Woking and Lifeworks. Dr Feeney has been working with Priory since 2000.

Dr Feeney studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin, qualifying in 1986. She practised paediatrics and family medicine prior to specialising in psychiatry. Her decision to enter the field of mental health was in part prompted by first-hand experience of mental health issues within her own family. After gaining a Master of Psychological Medicine at Monash University Australia, she worked in private practice in Hong Kong and was assistant professor at Hong Kong University.

After moving to the UK, in 1999, Dr Feeney worked in both the NHS, at the Chrysalis Eating Disorders service at Chertsey, Surrey and also at Priory Hospital Woking. She has corporate experience in the implementation and provision of Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs).

Training

Dr Feeney graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1986 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Medical Bachelor (MB), Bachelor of Surgery (BCh) and a Bachelor of the Art of Obstetrics (BAO)

She then did paediatrics and obtained a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from University College Dublin in 1987.

Subsequently she undertook a Family Medicine Training Programme in Australia and changed after 18 months to psychiatry. She did her specialist training in Psychiatry in Victoria (Australia) and also obtained a Master of Psychological Medicine from Monash University in 1994. She obtained the fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 1997.

In 1999, Dr Feeney moved to the UK and became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2000. She trained in cognitive behavioural therapy for eating disorders (CBT-E) under Professor Chris Fairburn in 2003.

Dr Feeney has also done extensive training in the diagnosis and management of adult ADHD.

Research Interests

Published article on referral patterns to a specialist Eating Disorders Service in the European Journal of Eating Disorders.

Currently writing a paper on the co-morbidity of Binge Eating Disorder and ADHD.

Although having special interests in women’s mental health, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), I has extensive experience in treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions. I treat all general psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety, psychoses and addictions.

I have travelled to many parts of the world including Burma, China, Vietnam and Russia. I have lived in Australia, Ireland, Hong Kong, Bulgaria and the UK. I completed an Olympic distance triathlon in 1995 and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2011. I enjoy travelling and the outdoors. Many of my patients have found me to be understanding, kind and a very experienced psychiatrist.
