Addiction to over the counter and prescription medication is becoming an increasing concern, often it is a hidden addiction that the patient themselves are not always aware of or are willing to admit to.
It is estimated that there are 1.5 million people in the UK alone who are addicted to either prescription or over the counter medication.
Pharmacists are often at a loss to know how to deal with these situations.
At Priory Group we have become increasingly aware of just how big a problem this is becoming, we know that without action being taken it will only get worse.
With addiction there is often a great deal of stigma attached, It is only through education and increased awareness that we can hope to break through some of this stigma and give people the chance to have a better insight and understanding of addiction.
At Priory Hospital Altrincham we would like to offer Pharmacists a seminar based on both over the counter and prescription medications.
We believe that by working together there is hope.
