The Priory Hospital Hayes Grove therapy team will present:
Acceptance and Commitment therapy or ACT is a third wave therapy. It is a branch of behavioural therapy. It is an empirically based psychological intervention that uses Mindfulness and acceptance strategies mixed in different ways with commitment and behaviour - change strategies to increase psychological flexibility.
ACT differs from traditional CBT in that rather than trying to teach people to better control their thoughts ,feelings ,sensations, memories and other private events, ACT teaches them to ‘just notice’, accept and embrace their private events, especially previously unwanted ones. There is a lot of research indicating it’s efficacy and it gradually becomes more and more popular.
