The Priory Hospital Brighton and Hove specialises in treating patients with a wide range of mental health issues, including addictions, depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders and more.
The Priory Hospital Brighton and Hove has an excellent reputation for the highest standards of mental healthcare provision. The hospital's core services focus on general adult psychiatry. Clinical services are delivered by a consultant-led multidisciplinary team incorporating therapists, counsellors, nurses and specialist support staff.
The hospital provides residential facilities for 16 inpatients and a wide range of outpatient treatment programmes. All patients enjoy the privacy of a private room with en-suite facilities and access to their own television and telephone where appropriate.
The hospital is situated just five minutes from the sea and offers patients hope, healing and sanctuary in a relaxed and homely hospital environment.
Our staff team has the expertise and experience to treat most psychiatric conditions. These include depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive states, schizophrenia and all major acute psychiatric illnesses.
The service specialises in addiction treatment for substance and behavioural dependency, such as alcohol, drugs, gambling, relationships and shopping.
Addictions treatment programme includes:
The eating disorder service provides effective programmes for the successful treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and other related conditions. The specially developed eating disorders programme focuses on the psychological, social, behavioural and physical sides of the illness.
The mother and baby service provides inpatient treatment for a wide range of mental health issues including severe and acute postnatal depression, puerperal psychosis and women with enduring psychiatric disorders who require help with their parenting abilities.
Patients are housed in a seperate secure unit, supported by specialist staff to facilitate the bonding process. The programme involves family members where appropriate, if desired. Close links are maintained with the patient's GP, health visitor, midwife and other supporting agencies throughout the patient's stay.
Inpatient services are normally provided under contract to the NHS although self-funding clients and those with private medical insurance are also welcome.
Private outpatient appointments for new parents experiencing adjustment problems, emotional, psychological or psychiatric difficulties following the birth of a child are also available. Simply call to make an appointment.
Telephone 01273 747464 for an appointment.
We take referrals from GPs, consultant psychiatrists, specialist PCT commissioners and occupational health physicians. We also accept patient self-referrals onto our addictions treatment programme (ATP) and our day care programme.
A referral can be made by telephone, in writing, via email or via fax to the hospital's admission department, who will then pass these details on to the relevant consultant. To make an outpatient appointment with a specific consultant, please telephone the relevant secretary on 01273 747464
Any company wishing to make a referral, or member of staff wising to be admitted to a Priory hospital, will need to be referred by their company occupational health doctor. Where an occupational health nurse has been the employees point of contact they should liaise with the company doctor to arrange a referral, if this is required.
All Priory hospitals are recognised by all major private medical insurers, such as BUPA, PPP and others. It is advised that you contact your insurer to check that adequate cover is available.
Patients who wish to self-fund will be asked to make an initial set payment on admission either by credit card or cash. Details of the charge are available on request from Admissions. A self-funding patient will also be asked to sign a financial agreement to guarantee further payments.
Patients wishing to be funded by the NHS need to discuss funding matters with their own GP or consultant. The GP or consultant will then apply for funding from the local Primary Care Trust. An agreement to fund a NHS patient in a Priory hospital is made purely at the discretion of the Primary Care Trust.
The Priory Hospital Brighton & Hove will make financial arrangements with corporate clients.
The first step to recovery for the patient is to undergo an initial assessment to identify the issues, make any diagnosis and draw up the most appropriate treatment plan. For our addictions treatment programme we offer a free initial addiction assessment.
Treatment is then available on an outpatient, inpatient and day patient basis.

Within the addiction treatment programme, where possible, we encourage the patient's family to become involved in the treatment programme as this can help give a greater understanding of the illness - hopefully leading to a speedier recovery once the patient has returned home.
In addition to medical excellence we provide a safe relaxed atmosphere at the hospital, which facilitates the recovery process.
You can be assured that the treatment patients receive will be of the highest standard, as we are continually monitored by the independent regualtor the Care Quality Commission and are benchmarked against the National Service Framework.

We also strive to ensure the effectiveness and success of our treatment by meeting exacting, externally validated standards and our results compare favourably with the published benchmarks.
The environment we create for patients is as important as the treatment, itself. To this end, each patient has the privacy of is or her own comfortable bedroom, with television, telephone, and en-suite facilities.
Patients are encouraged to have their meals in the main dining room, which offers excellent choice of dishes. Special dietary requirements can also be catered for.
Visiting times and visitors allowed will be individual for each patient depending on their therapeutic programme. Please discuss this with the nursing team. All visitors must sign in and out at reception and report to the nurses station for general psychiatry and addiction treatment programme. All visitors must leave the building no later than 10.00 pm.
