Members of staff and patients came together to take part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Headway, the charity which works to improve life after brain injury.
The 5 mile sponsored walk from our Elton Unit to our Walmersley Unit is a remarkable achievement for some of the patients whose severe injuries have resulted in significant cognitive and physical impairments.
A massive achievement
Helen Powell, Hospital Director comments: "Patients couldn’t walk all the way, but some took their first few steps which is a massive achievement for them. We are so proud of them and their participation and it is inspiring staff and relatives to walk even further on their behalf. We have chosen three charities to raise money for as they are all relevant to Highbank as we have a children's unit, adult brain injury unit and a mental health unit.”
In total over 50 people made up from staff, patients, families and friends completed the walk and raised much needed funds for three charities in all - Headway, the brain injury charity, Children in Need, and Mind, the mental health charity. So far we have raised approximately £2,000 for the charities.
