Beverley House

Beverley House is a 24-bedded rehabilitation hospital for women over the age of 18, situated in the heart of the community in Birmingham.

Patients admitted to Beverley House may be informal or detained under the Mental Health Act with a primary diagnosis of mental illness and personality disorder with complex needs.

Our approach

We aim to support all our patients with a comprehensive occupational therapy programme that will engage individuals at any level of need. We help to develop patients' life skills and provide activities of daily living to promote independence.

We also adopt an observation reduction programme using daily reviews by clinicians with all residents on enhanced observations, supporting residents to be responsible for their own risk and to reduce observation levels and maximise liberty within safe parameters.

Psychological assessment includes:

  • Risk assessments
  • Personality assessments
  • Cognitive assessments

Our structured programme of group psychotherapy includes acceptance based cognitive behavioural therapy such as ACT and DBT, which are all evidence based for personality disorder and mental health issues. We also provide a full substance misuse programme. Psychological therapy groups address:

  • Mental health awareness
  • Risk management
  • Goal setting
  • Recovery
  • Relapse prevention
  • Transition to the community

More Info

We believe the environment in which treatment takes place, and further facilities, is as important as the therapy itself. The service provides:

  • An in-house chef with special dietary meals served in our dining room
  • A Real Work Opportunity programme modelling community employment by using job applications and interviews for residents to obtain paid roles within the hospital
  • Access to a full-time social worker to liaise with family members and manage benefits and housing
  • Regular community meetings and service user representative meetings encouraging residents to participate in the development of the service
