Kneesworth House

Kneesworth House offers purpose built services with medium secure, low secure, and both locked and open rehabilitation opportunities. Based in Hertfordshire in spacious grounds, Kneesworth House Hospital offers a range of specialist recovery pathways, all at one site.

The wide range of care settings maximises the opportunity for patients to have step down pathways and move easily between care settings to whatever level of security is most appropriate for their needs.

Our approach

Kneesworth House Hospital is in the unique position, as a multi-faceted service, to offer complete discharge pathways to its patients. All patients are offered a 12-week individualised treatment timetable, which includes a range of clinical therapies and specialist multidisciplinary team (MDT) input.

Acute service

Kneesworth House also provides an acute service for female patients suffering from a wide range of mental health conditions. We provide a safe and secure environment with a focus on successful discharges and a minimum length of stay.

Our acute ward is a 12-bedded unit led by a strong multidisciplinary team that provides high quality and consistent care for all patients, and includes:

  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) informed staff
  • One fulltime allocated consultant
  • A caring and dedicated nursing team

"Staff were always able to offer one-to-one time when needed, and seemed to genuinely care about what I had to say, even though it may have not made sense at the time." Former patient

Our acute service takes referrals nationally and includes a psychology provision for patients which is available on request. We respond quickly to the individual needs of every patient and provide bespoke care plans. We listen to our patients and weekly community meetings are a chance for everyone to get involved and provide their feedback.

"I felt staff treated me very respectfully at all times, even when I was distressed or I didn't make sense. There were excellent communication and relationship." Former patient

Our pathways include:

  • Male learning disability service discharge pathway
  • Male mental health service discharge pathway
  • Female mental health service discharge pathway

Care is provided by an experienced MDT, which is individualised to patient needs and geared to develop coping skills, improved independence and skills that are useful to the patient following discharge.
