Young people's mental health and Child Psychiatry Services in London

North London’s young people’s service provides intensive inpatient and day patient care for the assessment and treatment of young people suffering from acute emotional, behavioural and mental health problems. 

Adolescent obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) treatment is also offered at North London as part of our specialist services. This bespoke service caters for young people suffering from OCD, BDD, health anxiety and other related disorders on an inpatient, day patient and outpatient basis. This service is led by world renowned and published expert, Professor David Veale. Professor Veale leads a dedicated team of cognitive behavioural therapists and specialist mental health nurses who are committed to providing world class treatment to each and every one of our patients.

NHS England has also commissioned inpatient beds for more intensive treatment of severe OCD, BDD and related disorders.

The therapeutic programmes that we provide to young people at North London include:

  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)

  • Schema therapy

  • Mindfulness

  • Compassionate mind groups

  • Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Individual psychotherapy and counselling

  • Creative therapies e.g. psychodrama, art therapy, creative writing

  • Family therapy

  • Psychoeducation

  • Equine assisted therapy

  • Recreational activities to promote social confidence and support rehabilitation

Inpatients receive at least three hours of individual therapy per week, group therapy with other OCD or BDD patients, a programme of exposure and behavioural experiments and 24-hour nursing assistance
