Acute Mental Health Service

The East Wing is a 12 bedded, all female, acute adult ward with a mix of both detained and informal patients. It offers:

  • Rapid assessments and frequent patient reviews
  • Immediate discharge planning, supported by an experienced social worker
  • Discharge barriers addressed upon admission
  • Well attended and comprehensive day programmes
  • Minimised use of continuous nursing observation whilst maintaining a safe environment
  • A dedicated onsite Consultant with expert clinical knowledge
  • A ward GP trainee to address all physical health care needs of our patients

The team on East Wing work closely with referring Trusts to achieve minimum lengths of stay, and are able to provide an extension to NHS care pathways during times of fluctuating demand. We work collaboratively with discharge teams to ensure a smooth transition back into existing community services, or to an individual’s home where possible.

Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders Service

Priory Court ward is a 19 bedded inpatient eating disorders service for young people aged 11-17 in need of treatment for a variety of eating disorders. All patients are under the care of a Consultant Psychiatrist and have a named nurse who co-ordinates the patient’s individualised care.

Referrals to Priory Court must meet the following criteria:

  • A patient suffering from a primary diagnosis/suspected eating disorder
  • A young person is having significant difficulty maintaining a healthy weight in the community setting
  • When other community-based interventions have been attempted but are no longer appropriate or effective

This is a 24/7 service with fulltime medical cover on-site, which offer emergency and crisis admissions. The hospital provides an OFSTED registered day school that allows young people to access the core National Curriculum and a Skills Centre.

Child and Adolescent Tier 4 Acute

Lower Court is an acute adolescent mental health service which provides 12 inpatient beds for young people between the ages of 12 to 18 years. Referrals to Lower Court must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 12 to 18
  • Individual requires assessment and treatment
  • Those exhibiting behaviours that are putting themselves and/or others at risk
  • Service users who are informal or detained under the Mental Health Act

This is a 24/7 service with full time medical cover on-site, which offers emergency and crisis admissions. The hospital provides an OFSTED registered day school that allows young people to access the core National Curriculum and a Skills Centre.

Adult Eating Disorders

Upper Court is a 13 bed inpatient eating disorders service for adults aged 18 years old and over in need of treatment for a variety of eating disorders. We treat patients with a variety of disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and atypical eating disorders.

Referrals to Upper Court must meet the following criteria:

  • A patient suffering from a primary diagnosis/suspected eating disorder
  • A  patient is having significant difficulty maintaining a healthy weight in the community setting
  • When other community-based interventions have been attempted but are no longer appropriate or effective

This is a 24/7 service with fulltime medical cover on-site, which offer emergency and crisis admissions.
