The Aspen Unit is The Priory Hospital Woodbourne's psychiatric intensive care unit which provides a fast turnaround service where the focus is supporting young adults to improve their coping skills in the short term.

Woodbourne has a highly experienced team of mental health professionals and support staff, which include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and therapists. They can treat a wide range of acute mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic-stress-disorder, obsessive compulsive states, schizophrenia and all other major acute psychiatric illnesses.

Addiction treatment

Eating disorders unit

Our eating disorder service provides effective, quality care programmes for the successful treatment of Anorexia, Bulimia, binge eating and other related conditions. The specially developed eating disorders programme focuses on the psychological, social, behavioural and physical sides of the illness.

Eating disorder day care services

Our eating disorder day care service provides treatment tailored to the needs of the individual. The programme involves assistance in re-establishing an appropriate relationship with food, education into the nature and consequences of eating disorders and guidance in helping people to identify personally with this information.

We provide an adult inpatient service to treat eating disorders, which can also be accessed through self-funding or private medical insurance.

Child and adolescent services CAMHS

The Priory Hospital Woodbourne offers outpatient treatment for children and adolescents from 5 to 17 years. This includes adolescents suffering from a wide range of mental health, emotional and behavioural problems such as depression, trauma, schizophrenia, anxiety, self-harm, conduct disorders and autistic spectrum disorders. Outpatient services for children include access to psychology and psychotherapy and is appropriate for those suffering from:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • Eating disorders

  • ADHD

The team provides parenting advice and liaises with schools and other professionals involved in the young person's care. 

Inpatient care is provided in a 23 bedded unit for young people aged between 12 - 17 years.

Accommodation and facilities

The environment we create for patients is as important as the treatment, itself. To this end, each patient has the privacy of his or her own comfortable bedroom, with television, telephone, and en-suite facilities.

Patients are encouraged to have their meals in the main dining room, which offers an excellent choice of dishes. Special dietary requirements can also be catered for.

Visiting times

Visiting times and visitors allowed will be individual for each patient depending on their therapeutic programme and must not conflict with group therapy sessions.  Please discuss this with the nursing team prior to your visit to the hospital. All visitors must sign in and out at reception and report to the nurses station for general psychiatry and addiction treatment programme. All visitors must leave the building no later than 10.00 pm.

Flexible appointments

At Priory we offer flexible access to treatment and ensure that individual circumstances are taken into account ensuring the most appropriate treatment plan is drawn up. Different treatment options include:

  • On a session by session basis
  • As an inpatient
  • Through half and full day therapy programmes

With appointments available in the evenings Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings at most sites, you can access therapy at the time most convenient to you.
