Approach to treatment

Alongside our range of mental health services, Priory offers additional specialist services for those with a neuro disability.

Our consultants in rehabilitation medicine, clinical neuropsychology and neuro-rehabilitation are supported by a comprehensive range of specialist staff. These include rehabilitation and psychology assistants, physiotherapists, nurses, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists along with social workers, counsellors and dietitians.

Through our services at The Priory Highbank Centre, Bury and Priory Mount Eveswell, Newport, Priory provides person-centred neuro-rehabilitation programmes that are bespoke to the severity and complexity of a person’s particular neuro-disability.

Our Integrated Pathway

The ICP co-ordinates services that the individual will receive with us, from pre-admission all the way through their treatment programme and beyond. The ICP model consists of a set of 12 standards of excellence within nine areas of clinical practice, which aims to improve the quality of rehabilitation for those in our care. The unique approach to the rehabilitation process adopted by the ICP encourages a greater level of involvement in goal setting and care planning to be achieved, not just from the individual receiving treatment, but also of their family and carers.

Our rehabilitation and recovery model for neuro-disabilities is underpinned by a proactive focus on the whole of a service user’s care programme. Discharge planning is central to our model, with plans for step-down included in initial consultation with commissioners and stakeholders during the admission process. Along with Mount Eveswell, Highbank’s Elton Unit provides slow stream neuro-rehabilitation that enables service users to safely step-down from the higher acuity units in the Hospital. And further down the pathway, Priory provides a comprehensive footprint of services including enhanced community homes and supported living accommodations – offering service users and commissioners complete continuity of person-centred care.
