Dr Dave Barker, BM MSc MRCPsych
Dr Barker initially trained in General Psychiatry from 1992 at the University College London (UCL). He became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1995 and did his Higher Specialist Training as a Clinical Research Fellow and Lecturer in London specialising in Forensic Psychiatry. He completed a Masters in Medical Anthropology from UCL in 1996.
He has published a number of of scientific papers in important peer-reviewed journals, including The British Journal of Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry and Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology.
Dr Barker has worked in Forensic Psychiatry for fourteen years and has a special interest in first episode psychosis, schizophrenia and violence, affective disorders including depression, and anthropology as related to psychiatry. He works as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, a low secure facility near Weston-super-Mare and is currently a Visiting Fellow and Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry in London.
