Dr Baig is a General Adult Psychiatrist and Medical Director at The Priory Hospital Southampton. Dr Baig completed his psychiatric training in London with Guy’s and Maudsley Psychiatric Training Scheme. He is on the specialist register of the General Medical Council for General Psychiatry with additional expertise in Liaison Psychiatry (mental health problems in context of medical illness). Before moving to Priory, he worked for Dorset Healthcare where he had consultant responsibility for an inpatient unit and home treatment team. His areas of special interest include neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, addictions, medicolegal and stress/work related psychiatric problems. He has extensive experience of working with anxiety, depression, psychosis, drug and alcohol problems and Bipolar Affective Disorder in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Dr Baig has been an accredited clinical and educational supervisor for doctors specialising in psychiatry. He has a keen interest in ethical and medicolegal aspects of mental healthcare, has published on use of the Mental Health Act and has been involved in initiatives to improve quality of care and patient experience. He is able to accept instructions from solicitors and provide court reports on civil and criminal matters.
