Dr Laurence Church is a staff Consultant at The Priory Hospital Woking. He offers rapid access to a personalised, holistic assessment and treatment. Dr Church believes passionately in the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship and partnership working with his patients. Previously he worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist within the NHS, where he gained two NHS Clinical Excellence Award's.
Training and previous appointments
Dr Church qualified as a doctor (MBChB) in 1998 at the University of Birmingham. He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2002. Dr Church has undertaken specialist training on the St George’s, Maudsley and Guy’s Hospital schemes in London. He obtained a Masters degree in Psychiatric Research (MSc) in 2007. He was approved on the specialist register to practice General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry in 2009. He left his consultant role in the NHS in 2014 to undertake full time private practice.
Research and Publications
Dr Church is an author of a leading undergraduate textbook, Psychiatry PRN, which received a ‘highly commended’ prize at the 2010 British Medical Association book awards. He has also published articles in peer-reviewed journals on psychiatric education, considering how to train better doctors for the future. His MSc thesis studied the use of cannabis in early psychosis.
Dr Church has special interest in a number of conditions, including: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, work related mental health problems and issues affecting young adults.
