Dr Megan Roberts is a General Adult Psychiatrist working both in the NHS and as a Visiting Consultant to the Priory, Southampton, providing clinics to the Wellbeing Centre Southampton.
She has worked as a Consultant for over 20 years in a variety of roles including Inpatient Psychiatry, Home Treatment, Rehabilitation, Addiction, and currently Community Psychiatry. She has an endorsement in Older Persons’ Mental Health.
Dr Roberts completed her medical training at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1986 then joined the Psychiatry training scheme at St Mary’s Hospital London. She obtained her MRCPsych in 1991 and has been approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act since that time.
She has published on a number of topics including depression and the importance of Expressed Emotion in mental health conditions.
She worked as a Consultant in London for 10 years before moving to Hampshire with her family in 2005 where she has worked as a Consultant at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust to present day.
During this time she has taken an active role in medical education, becoming Training Programme Director for Wessex deanery 2011- present day. She is an accredited Educational Supervisor and trains Senior Psychiatric Trainees.
She has a particular interest and experience in women’s mental health problems and is passionate about the need to recognise the hormonal contribution to psychiatric presentations often overlooked.
In addition Dr Roberts provides treatment for drug and alcohol problems, bipolar disorder, psychosis – all patients can be managed as an outpatient or inpatient as required, liaising with therapies as indicated.
