Melissa is a UKCP, CRB Registered, Nationally Accredited Supervisor, and Individual, Couple, and Family Psychotherapist, with over 25 years’ experience of clinical, supervisory, teacher and training within NHS Child and Adult Psychiatry Departments, including at very senior management level.
She has been the Service Coordinator for the Child and Adolescent Team and has been key in developing innovative award winning services. Melissa developed and managed the largest family therapy service across a large geographical area within inner and outer London Boroughs and is a national figure. Melissa has been a trustee of well-known charities, including Young Minds, and is currently a Trustee Director and Chair of Professional Affairs, for Association of Family Therapy.
Melissa has developed and directed a nationally accredited family therapy and systemic training course and regularly provides teaching and lectures of child and adolescent development and mental health disorders for medical students and psychiatry trainees.
With such a substantial experience Melissa is able to respond with a high level of expertise to a wide range of complex mental health difficulties.
She also has substantial experience of courts, regarding child welfare and access arrangements, within the public and private sectors.
Her approach is to develop a working relationship that is essentially empathic with sensitive responsiveness to distress, but when appropriate is challenging to invoke change. Psychotherapy training emphasises the importance of relationships, with particular reference to the patterns of interaction and communication.
