Dr Suendermann is a caring, motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist. His areas of interest are anxiety disorders with a focus on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Dr Suendermann has gained experience in treating anxiety at various national clinics such as the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma at the Maudsley and the Anxiety Disorders Residential Unit at the Bethlem. In his current role as the OCD Lead Dr Suendermann manages the Obsessional Department at the Priory North London in collaboration with Dr David Veale, supervise CBT therapists and trainee clinical psychologists, and also teach CBT to other professionals.
Dr Suendermann's clinical work involves specialist inpatient treatment for severe OCD and BDD, often in the context of trauma. Dr Suendermann's treatment approach is multi-model with a main focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and he also draws on other therapeutic models (e.g. Compassion-focused therapy), always tailoring treatment to client’s needs, and helping them to move towards their valued goals.
Before completing his doctorate training in clinical psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry Dr Suendermann completed a PhD at the same institution which examined memory and emotional processes involved in PTSD, and has published several papers on this topic.
Dr Suendermann is bilingual and also able to provide treatment in German.
